JU trailed by five at the break, but South Carolina State (5-5) outscored the Dolphins 20-8 in the first five minutes of the second half to lead 58-41,
The Dolphins (4-6) pulled within three with 1:34 remaining, but they would get no closer.
Guard Kori Babineaux led JU with 20 points and hit 10 of 15 shots from the field. But the rest of the Dolphins shot just 19 of 49 (39 percent). Forward Marcel White had 13 points and eight rebounds.
